Marlene DePriest
Director of the Westminster Choir
Marlene DePriest, originally from Brooklyn, Iowa, is the director of the Westminster Choir. Growing up in a farm family of nine children helped prepare her for her future career. After graduating from BGM High School, she attended Iowa Wesleyan College where she received her Bachelors of Music Education degree.
Seven wonderful years were spent teaching the students at the Burlington Area Catholic Schools in Burlington, Iowa. During this time, she also directed various church choirs and was the organist at the First Congregational Church. In 1992, the DePriests moved to Mt. Pleasant where her husband, Jim, became the high school instrumental director. The following year, Marlene took the middle school vocal position also with the Mt. Pleasant Community School District. Somewhere in the next few years, Marlene agreed to be the interim choir director for the Westminster Choir, a position she truly enjoys.
Marlene and Jim are the proud parents of four children; Colin, Kyle, Caitlyn, and Callie.
